Yes, good things are coming to Whistler this November. If you like food and wine, make sure to mark November 5th– 15th in your calendar- Whistler will be hosting top notch Chefs, Wine-Makers and Foodies from around the World for its annual Food and Wine Festival. With so much to see and do (or should we say, eat and drink) we have put together an Unofficial Guide to Whistler’s Cornucopia so you can optimize your time in Whistler and pack in as many events as possible over the 11 days.
The events at Cornucopia are divided into 8 main categories: Gala Tastings, Drink Seminars, Culinary Stage Series, Luncheons, Dinners, Brunches, Parties and Nourish: Health and Wellness Events. You can also select events by beverage type (wine, beer, spirit) and those in the food and beverage industry can attend a series of industry and educational workshops. Here is a breakdown of the different events to check out at this year’s Cornucopia.
Gala Tastings are you chance to sip and savour a large assortment of wine and other beverages of different styles from BC and the rest of the world. Prepare to obliterate your pallet and make sure to organize a taxi afterwards as you will have the opportunity to taste hundreds of wines and beverages if you choose. Gala Tastings are the way to go if you want to experience the best of the festival’s wine, beer and spirits all under one roof.
Drink Seminars are your opportunity to justify your drinking with a little education. Just kidding. They are fun and informative seminars on a range of topics all with a food and drink focus. This your chance to really explore your love of wine, beer and spirits and soak up the knowledge and passion from leaders in the field. Topics highlight specific regions, varietals, techniques, and pairings.
The Culinary Stage Series takes place at the Whistler Conference Centre where food producers, restaurateurs and wine-makers will guide attendees through tastings and educational seminars. Taste locally produced food as well as International cuisine. Learn how to properly match cheese with beer and wine, celebrate West Coast seafood and learn cooking techniques from abroad.
Cornucopia hosts a series of Luncheons where you’ll be sure to over-indulge on only the finest gastronomy. Situated in some of Whistler’s most prestigious locations such as private residences and surprise locations, Cornucopia’s luncheons are designed for discerning epicureans. Get intimate with acclaimed Chefs and Master Sommeliers during multi-course menus featuring gourmet food and premium wines. The luncheons are already starting to sell out so get your tickets fast!
The Dinner Events at Cornucopia are always a hit, make sure to book as soon as you can as some are sold out already. Whistler’s finest restaurants host local and international Chefs and wine-makers for evenings of fine food, premium wines and a little education to top it all off. These foodie events are sure to please all tastes so make sure to organize at least one Cornucopia dinner while in Whistler.
A food festival would not be complete without Brunch Events! Who doesn’t love a decadent Sunday brunch where delightful indulgence and day time drinking are encouraged. There are two Sunday brunches scheduled for Cornucopia this year. Make sure to plan for one!
Don’t forget tickets to a Cornucopia Party! There are tons to choose from so make sure to solidify your culinary trifecta with some live music and DJs. Most importantly Cornucopia parties provide you an opportunity to dance off the accumulated calories! The Best of BC House Party, POURED and Winter is Coming are some of the big events but make sure to check out the entire party calendar.
Finally, for those wishing to Nourish their bodies this year Cornucopia is featuring Nourish: Health & Wellness, a series of cooking, yoga & meditation and breath & movement workshops. You can experience Nourish retreat-style over four days or pick your events a-la-carte instead.
