Spring is the perfect time to come to Whistler. The evenings are longer, the temperatures are milder and yes the snow is still awesome! Here is our guide to spring skiing, and why you want to ski Whistler at this time of year.
Start Later
You can enjoy a nice late start and still get almost a whole day of skiing in. Lifts are now open as late as 4pm so there’s no need to rush out of bed early. Avoiding rushing out the door early means you can enjoy more of your evening and still get a good amount of time on the mountain. With 2 mountains and 4,757 acres of skiable terrain on offer, you have plenty of time of ski both mountains, enjoy a leisurely lunch and revel in views on the Peak 2 Peak.
Après In The Sun
Sitting outside with the sun of your face, enjoying a nice cold drink after a day of skiing sounds nice right? Whistler has some awesome après spots both up and down the mountain for you to enjoy the perfect after skiing experience. Whistler Mountain has the Umbrella Bar patio where you can see views of the mountains and Whistler village. If you’re stopping for a midday ski break, head over to Blackcomb, and watch skiers racing down the mountain from Glacier Lodge patio.
Better Views
This time of year the sun shines on the mountains and valley below. Those days when there’s not a cloud in sight mean you can get uncompromised views of the beautiful Coastal Mountain range. For best views, head to the top of Peak Express on Whistler Mountain and 7th Heaven Express on Blackcomb. Local Tip: both areas are great on a powder day!
Wear Fewer Layers
Skiing is great all winter but it’s even better when it’s not freezing cold. You can experience the warmer temperatures that this time of year offer, and still benefit from great snow in the alpine. March is statistically known to deliver more snow than both January and February. So you can have lots of outside fun without worrying about being cold.
Wear Sunscreen
While you’re desperately trying to perfect your goggle tan, don’t forget to wear sunscreen. The combination of being at higher altitude and the UV rays reflecting in the snow puts skiers (and snowboarders) at increased risk of sun damage. Keep applying sunscreen throughout the day so you look as fresh off the mountain as you do on it.
Make sure you make the trip to Whistler and have lots of fun in the snow this spring. Get your lift tickets 7 days in advance for the best prices.
